Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's latest business deal is said to have caused concern amongst members of the royal family! Earlier this month, Harry and Meghan signed a deal with Netflix to produce original programming for the streaming service, but their media contract has been under scrutiny for several reasons.
Harry and Meghan's decision creates worry for senior royals
Harry and Meghan agreed to a one-year review period after stepping back from their duties as senior members of the royal family, which is one of the reasons there has been concern about their decision to team up with Netflix. And as Entertainment Tonight shares, there is also the worry that Harry and Meghan's new venture will draw attention away from senior royals, such as Prince William and Duchess Kate!
Royal expert Katie Nicholl also mentioned that there has been apprehension about how Harry and Meghan will use their new platform. "There are some members of the institution who are concerned that the couple are going to cash in on their royal connections," she told Entertainment Tonight. However, she explained that sources say the couple is insistent they won't be taking advantage of the royal family in their new pursuit.
Harry and Meghan to create content in line with royal values
Harry and Meghan are said to be committed to upholding the values of the royal family in their new partnership. "They might be under pressure from Netflix to stray into upper territory," Nicholl continued, "but sources close to the couple tell me that they are very adamant that anything and everything that they do is very much going to be in a respectful tone to the Queen, the monarchy, and very much on their missions."
And according to Nicholl, the couple doesn't intend to produce content that will be exploitative to the royals in any way. "It's not going to be in style of The Crown or a royal documentary series," she went on to share. "I'm sure that really isn’t on the table so if there are concerns in the palace, Harry and Meghan are making it really clear there is no need for concern."
Harry and Meghan have become financially independent from the royal family, and even repaid the debts they owed for renovations on their home in the United Kingdom, Frogmore Cottage. The couple is currently enjoying life in California together with their son Archie after buying a home in Santa Barbara! We look forward to seeing what types of content they'll be producing with Netflix!
