Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did something extremely generous in honour of Martin Luther King Day! As People reports, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex— who launched their own nonprofit organization last year— gave free lunches to Los Angeles-based nonprofit The Mission Continues over the weekend as a way to express their appreciation!
Harry and Meghan send their "thanks and gratitude"
Harry and Meghan's thoughtful gesture was shared via the organization's Instagram page. Along with the boxes of food delivered by Homegirl Catering on their behalf, the couple sent a short letter! "In honor of this day of service, and in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and all that he stood for," they wrote, "we want to send our thanks and gratitude to the team at The Mission Continues."
"We're so proud of all the work you're doing to support your community and hope you enjoy this small token of our appreciation," Harry and Meghan went on to say of the veteran-run nonprofit. "Thank you for your service today and every day. We look forward to joining you soon. Stay safe and keep up the good work."
Harry and Meghan continue to give back with food
Harry and Meghan have continued to support organizations within their community through food deliveries since moving to California last year! Last Easter, Harry and Meghan volunteered with Project Angel Food to deliver meals to people in Los Angeles who found themselves struggling with food insecurity due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Back in November, Harry was seen in Compton volunteering with The Walker Family Events Foundation— along with the Los Angeles division of The Mission Continues— to give out food to people in need. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also helped out in the kitchen at gang rehab facility Homeboy Industries during the summer, which is where Homegirl Catering is based!
