Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's son almost had an air tanker named after him! As the Daily Mail reports, last year the government of New South Wales wrote to the then-royal couple on behalf of the state's Rural Fire Service with a special request. They wanted to know if Harry and Meghan would be okay with them naming a brand-new 737 Large Air Tanker after their son Archie, who's almost a year old!

Harry and Meghan say son "has not yet entered public life"
Harry and Meghan received the request from the New South Wales government since they had made an important announcement while on their Australian tour in 2018. That marked the time when Meghan confirmed her pregnancy with her firstborn child, Archie! However, Harry and Meghan wrote back to the New South Wales government, politely turning down the naming request!
According to The Sunday Telegraph, the couple thanked the government for their "kind offer" in regards to the naming proposal. Still, they cited the reason for not allowing the tanker to be named after their son as the fact that Archie "has not yet entered public life". The request itself was reportedly made by the office of Emergency Services minister David Elliot, and officials were surprised to have it declined.

Harry and Meghan's name for their charity inspired by Archie
Harry and Meghan may not have wanted their son's name being used by the New South Wales government, but they're using the inspiration behind it for their own charity! The news about Harry and Meghan's rejection of the offer to name a tanker after Archie came shortly after the couple launched charitable foundation Archewell. The name draws on the Greek word 'Arche', meaning 'source of action', which also inspired them to incorporate it into their son's name!
Even though the tanker ended up not being called "Archie", it still found an influential namesake in New South Wales' first female governor, Marie Bashir. The plane was unveiled last August, and went on to become an important part of helping to fight the Australian wildfires!
