- For the Dutch, an important date was coming up
- Willem-Alexander opened the parliament
- He and his family were booed
September 19 was Prinsjesdag in the Netherlands. On this date, which takes place annually in September, the monarch opens the new parliamentary year. It can be known to be glamorous at times.
How the royals celebrated Prinsjesdag
The royals celebrated the new season with a carriage ride followed by a balcony greeting to the crowd. In addition to King Willem-Alexander (56) and Queen Máxima (52), Princess Amalia (19) and Princess Alexia (18) were also allowed to be present this time.
But when the royals stepped onto the balcony, they were also greeted by loud boos. At the moment, the mood of the Dutch towards the royals is not the best; the royal family has made a few missteps in recent years.
