As part of their upcoming TIME100 Talks episode, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan posed for a photoshoot — their first in some time. On Oct. 20, they'll host the conversation with TIME on pursuing a "compassionate, safe, and trustworthy digital world."
The TIME special was announced on Oct. 16, promoted with a new picture of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Now, many have noticed a connection to Princess Diana in Meghan's wardrobe for the photoshoot. Specifically, we're looking at her wristwatch.
Did Meghan Markle honour Princess Diana in TIME photoshoot?
In the black-and-white portrait, taken by Matt Sayles, Harry and Meghan share a relaxed moment together in sharp formal dress. On her left wrist, the Duchess wears a watch, which may be Princess Diana's gold Cartier Tank Française watch.
As Hello! notes, Meghan also owns a two-tone Cartier Tank Française watch, but it remains possible that she inherited her late mother-in-law's original piece. On social media, fans are torn on whether Meghan wore her own silver watch or if it is, in fact, Lady Diana's gold timepiece — the black-and-white photo makes it difficult to decide.
Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan's TIME100 Talks episode
Meghan has been observed on several occasions wearing jewelry that once belonged to Princess Diana. If she's done so once more in the TIME shoot, Meghan pays tribute as she and her husband prepare to effect positive change online. Titled "Engineering a Better World," the Duke and Duchess's talk on "the state of our shared digital experience" airs on Oct. 20.
Harry and Meghan also honoured Diana's memory on the 23rd anniversary of her passing, which fell on Aug. 31, 2020, by planting seeds of her favourite flower, Forget-Me-Nots.
