- Thomas Markle Sr. had a stroke
- Meghan Markle's father is receiving treatment
- He was apparently going to fly to the UK next week
Thomas Markle Sr. is currently in hospital after suffering a stroke. The 77-year-old father of Meghan Markle was photographed by TMZ en route to the hospital. Mr. Markle lives in Mexico but was rushed to a facility in California on Monday night.
Meghan Markle's father Thomas suffers a stroke
Thomas Markle's daughter Samantha confirmed the news of the stroke to the Daily Mail. She said her father is "recovering" and "he just needs some rest." But the newspaper describes the stroke as "major" — they say that Markle lost his ability to speak.
It's sad news for the Markle family. Thomas Markle Sr. is estranged from his famous daughter Duchess Meghan, but he apparently planned to fly to the UK next week for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. He hoped to see his daughter and grandchildren there.
Also interesting:
Thomas hasn't been in Meghan's life since before her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018. He is said to have missed the wedding due to health problems, but had also caused drama in British tabloids ahead of the ceremony.
Since then, Mr. Markle has often criticized his daughter in media appearances. At the same time, he would express hopes of reconciliation and seeing his grandchildren Archie and Lili — whom he has never met.
He is also father of Thomas Markle Jr. and Samantha Markle, the half-siblings of Meghan. But Thomas Markle's UK visit now appears unlikely. We wish him a quick recovery.
