McGraw says song reminds people they're loved and not alone
McGraw explained that his new single has a couple meanings, both of which are important. "On the one hand, this song is literally, ‘Hey, call your mom,'" the country singer said. "On the other hand, you look at a time like this, there are real hardships for everyone, and it’s a great reminder that hearing someone’s voice who knows you and loves you can help you get through anything."
He went on to say that given the current circumstances of the world, connecting to people through music is especially crucial. "I think it’s at these very difficult times that music can help and the power of a song can give someone a moment of clarity or comfort, or just a smile," McGraw shared. "Especially now, when we seem to need it more than ever.”

McGraw said he "got beat up a couple times" protecting mother
McGraw also opened up about his upbringing in a new interview. As Entertainment Tonight reports, during McGraw's appearance on The Blair Garner Show, he talked about the domestic abuse his mother Betty Trimble endured in order to provide for him and his two sisters.
"My mom was a strong woman and she raised us three kids and went through a lot of abuse in her marriages," McGraw shared. "So we saw a lot of that growing up and saw a lot of the black eyes and bloody noses and all that thing around our house." He even reflected on how he "got beat up a couple times trying to get in the middle of it" as he tried to protect his mother in second or third grade.

McGraw on his own family: "I wanted to do the best I could"
McGraw told the show's host that now that he has children of his own, he wants them to grow up in a better home environment. "It was certainly not the way that I wanted to raise my family," he said to Garner. And that was specific in mind for me from the very beginning when I wanted to start a family."
"I wanted to do the best I could and I fail all the time," he continued. "I mean, gosh, I fail every day as a father, as a husband, as a son, a brother, I always fail. But you always get back up and try harder and the next time and try to learn from it.”
McGraw also took to Instagram to share that he's looking for fans to send him videos of their own mothers to be included in the "I Called Mama" music video, which is set to be released later this month.
