Born on May 1, 1967, Samuel Timothy McGraw didn't grow up thinking he'd become a musical star legend. In fact, he attended college on a baseball scholarship at Northeast Louisiana University.
He only started learning how to play the guitar during his time in college and sang for fun. He ended up dropping out of college and decided to move to Nashville to begin his professional musical career.
Tim McGraw: The early days
McGraw released his first single in 1991, "What Room Was the Holiday In", but it was certainly not a hit nor well-received. He released three more singles with the same response. Finally in 1994, he released his next album titled Not a Moment Too Soon, which became the best-selling country album in 2004. This album brought him two awards from the Academy of Country Music: Album of the Year and Top New Male Vocalist. Not bad for a rookie!
McGraw then released his next album, All I Want, in 1995, which just like his previous album, soared across the nation. The next year is when his beautiful wife, Faith Hill, would come into the picture. Hill broke off her engagement with a former country producer to start dating McGraw. They married the same year in 1996 and have been happily together ever since.
Tim and Faith: The country power couple!
Over the next three years, McGraw released two more albums and received more applause and Grammy nominations. This time in his songs, he included his wife and singer Faith Hill to perform duets with him. Their romance is still seen as the couple continues to perform together to this day. By 2000, his Soul2Soul tour was the leading country tour in the U.S.
