Zayn Malik has addressed the reports that he physically lashed out at Gigi Hadid's mother with a brief statement. On Thursday, the singer took to Twitter to share his side of things, while also voicing his frustration towards the issue becoming public.
Malik says he won't directly address incident because of daughter
Malik posted a screenshot of a response he typed up on the iPhone Notes app. He began by saying that he is "a private person," and seeks to "create a safe and private space" for his daughter Khai, who he shares with Hadid. The "PillowTalk" singer commented on his disdain towards how the media gets involved with personal matters, mentioning how such issues get "thrown on the world stage for all to pick and poke apart."
He then indirectly acknowledged the situation that had arisen, only saying that "an argument" recently occurred between himself and "a family member of my partner's". However, Malik also made it clear that he "agreed to not contest claims" of what had happened— a decision that he explained he made in the best interest of his daughter.
Malik ended his statement by saying that he intends "to protect Khai and give her the privacy she deserves." While Hadid herself has not spoken about the supposed incident, her representative told People that the model "is solely focused on the best for Khai." A source close to Hadid also told the outlet that while the on-again-off-again couple is "not together right now," the two of them "are both good parents."
