- Dolly Parton is an internationally beloved American singer, actress, and producer
- She is known to newer generations for her charity and humility
- Dolly has turned down a prestigious musical award nomination
In a move that is bound to surprise a few people, but perhaps not shock anyone that knows her, Dolly Parton has announced she is pulling out of this year’s nominations for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, saying she hasn’t “earned that right", as first reported by The Associated Press. Her announcement went viral online almost as quickly as she posted it, and people were quick to comment how rare it is to see something like this in Hollywood...
Dolly Parton Is A Beacon Of Humility In A Sea Of Self-Indulgence
The country music legend has already been elected into the Country Music Hall of Fame, and she explained her decision in a statement posted on her official social media pages Monday, noting she did not want to take votes away from the remaining nominees, as Dolly herself doesn't feel she's done enough good work in rock n' roll to accept the nomination!
“Even though I am extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don’t feel that I have earned that right. I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out,” she wrote.
Dolly was set to join other legendary names in country music within the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame like Johnny Cash, or Elvis Presley, but the "Jolene" singer simply feels she hasn't quite earned it and it would be unfair to other nominees that have. Few artists could have explained their reasons with such poise and grace:
“I do hope that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will understand and be willing to consider me again — if I’m ever worthy,” Parton’s statement continues - This has however inspired me to put out a hopefully great rock ‘n’ roll album at some point in the future, which I have always wanted to do! My husband is a total rock ‘n’ roll freak, and has always encouraged me to do one.”

And with that, we may very well have a Dolly Parton rock album coming down the pike. Parton finished her statement on a positive note. “I wish all of the nominees good luck and thank you again for the compliment. Rock on!”
Already known for being one of the most charitable people on the globe, the world simply cannot get enough of the legend that is Dolly Parton. And this latest development only serves to enlarge that legend. The story has gone viral online, and more downloads of her music have been registered on Spotify this week. Coincidence?
Either way, we're sure Dolly Parton fans will be more proud of her decision than her nomination in the first place. You go, Dolly!
