During a pivotal scene in the movie, Ryder's character was supposed to cry, and the director was hurling insults at her to get her to cry real tears.
"To put it in context I’m supposed to be crying,” the Stranger Things actress said. “Literally, Richard E Grant, Anthony Hopkins, Keanu… Francis was trying to get all of them to yell things that would make me cry," she added.
"But Keanu wouldn’t," she said, noting that Anthony Hopkins also refused.
"It just didn’t work. I was, like, ‘really?’ It kind of did the opposite," she continued.
Ryder said that she and Coppola are "good now", and that since her days on Dracula, she and Reeves continued to have a long-standing working relationship.
The actors had gone on to star in three more movies together, A Scanner Darkly, The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, and Destination Wedding.

Of the latter film, Ryder recalls how poorly it was received.
"It got the worst reviews. That movie, for some reason, every reviewer was like, ‘This is the worst movie in the world,’ and it was really rough," she said.
Winona and Reeves have a great relationship, and Ryder often teases and refers to Reeves as her "husband".
