Prince William made his thoughts about the age of billionaire space races very clear in an interview with the BBC which aired on Thursday. "We need some of the world's greatest brains and minds fixed on trying to repair this planet, not trying to find the next place to go and live," said William, who is second-in-line to the British throne. His comments were echoed by many around the world.
But many others, including space enthusiasts, have clapped back at Prince William in favor of space exploration. One of those voices belonged none other than William Shatner himself, who defended his trip into orbit.
William Shatner Hits Back at Royal Backlash
The actor spoke candidly to Entertainment Tonight where he shared his thoughts on William's comments. "He's a lovely, gentle, educated man, but he's got the wrong idea," Shatner said. He went on to explain the real purpose of the new age in space travel. "The idea here is not to go, 'Yeah, look at me. I'm in space.'"
Shatner explained that that these trips represent a "baby step" toward relocating polluting and more harmful industries to space. "All it needs is...somebody as rich as Jeff Bezos [to say], 'Let's go up there.'"
