Joseph Kosinski's Top Gun: Maverick is scheduled to be released in June 2020 and Tom Cruise was asked to play his legendary character "Pete Maverick" again. However, his former co-star Kelly McGillis who portrayed "Charlie" in the original production, was not invited to be part of the sequel and she is actually handling it very well!

"I look age-appropriate for what my age is": Top Gun star Kelly McGillis 

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Golden Globe nominee said that she is not surprised about the fact that she was not asked to be part of the upcoming film: "I’m old and I’m fat and I look age-appropriate for what my age is, and that is not what that whole scene is about. I’d much rather feel absolutely secure in my skin and who and what I am at my age as opposed to placing a value on all that other stuff."

McGillis wished the best to actress Jennifer Connelly who this time will be playing the role of "Charlie." McGillis also revealed that she has not yet seen the Top Gun: Maverick trailer and that although she has spoken with a couple of people from the original production she is actually not in touch with them.

Top Gun star Kelly McGillis is a professional acting teacher

Kelly McGillis was highly successful and recognized worldwide due to her work in Top Gun. She has also appeared in other projects like the fantasy-comedy movie Made in Heaven in 1987, and the 1992 drama film The Babe, as well as in a couple of television shows like We Are What We Are in 2013, and most recently in Mother of all Secrets in 2017.

She recently opened up about her need of taking a break at some point in her career, when she decided to teach acting classes instead of actually acting. She currently lives in Asheville, North Carolina with her two daughters Sonora and Kelsey, where she is still teaching.
