A native of Los Angeles, Mae Whitman comes from a family who actually currently works in La La Land. Her mother is a voice artist herself (she's dubbed many Disney series!) and her father is a set construction coordinator.
The DUFF: This is Mae Whitman in 2020
She initially had her start with voice-over work in a Tyson Chicken commercial, and then already made her film debut starring as Meg Ryan's daughter in When a Man Loves a Woman (1994).
Mae subsequently portrayed herself in the daughter role for several famous actors and their respective films, including Sandra Bullock's daughter in Hope Floats (1998) and George Clooney's daughter in One Fine Day (1996). It's no wonder she caught the eye of many in her early days!
Today, the actress is well-known in and around Hollywood. Since 2018, Whitman has starred alongside Mad Men's Christina Hendricks and Parks and Recreation's Retta in the TV series Good Girls.

Even before Mae starred in Good Girls, she also had a major role in the NBC series Parenthood, which earned her a Critics' Choice nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. She's a star both in film and television, which many actors don't always pull off!
Good Girls was recently just renewed for a 4th season, and you can watch the current seasons on Netflix! You can also check Mae out in the 2020 film Valley Girl, which was released through video on demand due to COVID-19.
We can't wait to see what's next for this young star!
