The 58-year-old English stand-up comedian and actor Ricky Gervais is set to host the 2020 Golden Globe Awards for the fifth - and last - time.
The Office creator hosted the event between 2010 and 2012, and again in 2016. He previously claimed he would not present the show anymore, but now he has just said he will be reprising his role for the 77th edition. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) "made me an offer I can’t refuse. But this is the very last time I’m doing this, which could make for a fun evening," he stated.
This is why Ricky Gervais will host the 2020 Golden Globes
Ricky Gervais, who is currently working on his black comedy-drama web television series After Life, has been criticized for his polemical routines more than once. Why? He often makes jokes about other stars addressing political and racial issues.
It seems like that's exactly what the HFPA wants - a star who's not afraid of being in the spotlight! "When Ricky Gervais is at the helm of the Golden Globes Awards, we can always expect the unexpected," said Lorenzo Soria, head of the HFPA. "There is always a palpable electricity in the room when Ricky takes the Globes stage," added Paul Telegdy, NBC Entertainment Chairman.
The Golden Globes will take place on 5 January 2020 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, airing live on NBC.
