Rachel Weisz

Rachel Weisz was born March 7th, 1970 in London England and is of Austrian-Hungarian descent. She grew up in a family that valued the arts, and first began her career in modeling at age 14. After finishing her degree, Weisz began her acting career in 1992 in both television and film roles.

'The Mummy'

Rachel's international breakthrough came in 1999 during her role in The Mummy, starring alongside Brendan Fraser where she played "Evelyn", an Egyptologist. The pair would star in the sequel a few years later in The Mummy Returns (2001), which would earn an impressive $433 million in the box office globally.

'About a Boy'

In 2002, Rachel Weisz starred in the comedy-drama film, About a Boy, opposite Hugh Grant, which was... about a boy. The film respectively earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.

'Runaway Jury'

The following year, Rachel starred in a John Grisham novel adaptation of Runaway Jury. The thriller consisted of an all-star cast, including Dustin Hoffman, Gene Hackman and John Cusack.

'The Constant Gardener'

In 2005, Rachel Weisz starred in the critically acclaimed film, The Constant Gardener, where she played an activist married to a British embassy official set in Kenya. Due to her role, Weisz won both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress. She also received a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture. Not a bad year for her!

'The Whistleblower'

Weisz then starred in one of the most powerful films of her career in 2010's The Whistleblower. The movie premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and was based on a true case of human trafficking. During its premiere, an audience member fainted due to its surreal and graphic scenes.

'Dream House'

Then in 2011, Weisz would star in the Dream House with her future husband, Daniel Craig. Both had been friends for years even before starring together in this thriller, but clearly got to know each other better during filming. The pair married the same year!

'The Deep Blue Sea'

Rachel appeared yet again at the Toronto Film Festival, but this time for the drama The Deep Blue Sea, starring opposite Tom Hiddleston. She was nominated, respectively, for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama.

'The Bourne Legacy'

Weisz joined the Bourne films in 2012 in the action-thriller The Bourne Legacy. Although the original "Jason Bourne" aka Matt Damon doesn't appear in the film, Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz made a solid pair, as the film grossed an impressive $276 million worldwide.

'Oz the Great and Powerful'

In 2013, Rachel starred in one of the biggest hits of that year - Oz the Great and Powerful - with Mila Kunis, James Franco and Zach Braff. In it, she stars as "Evanora", the Wicked Witch of the West. The film is a prequel to the original 1939 version of The Wizard of Oz. It became one of the highest grossing films of 2013, grossing around $439 million at the box office.
