The world is mourning the loss of Dame Barbara Windsor, who passed away at age 83 on Thursday.
The death of the EastEnders actress has inspired many tributes, including one from Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla. In the hours following the loss, the royals paid tribute on social media, remembering the beloved and generous star—who was made a Dame in 2016.
Prince Charles & Duchess Camilla remember Barbara Windsor
On Instagram, Clarence House wrote: "Dame Barbara Windsor - a great British actor and tireless charity campaigner who will be deeply missed." They added three photos in the tribute: one showing Windsor at her 2016 Damehood ceremony, one of Windsor with Prince Charles in 2007, and one of the actress and Duchess Camilla in 2013.
Commenters praised the tribute and added kind words about Windsor. Dame Barbara Windsor (1937-2020)
Barbara Windsor was born in Shoreditch, London, on Aug. 6, 1937, and went on to a successful career as an actress. She began on the stage before earning a BAFTA nomination for 1963 film Sparrows Can't Sing and also beginning her work in the Carry On films in the mid-1960s. Barbara was also well-known for starring as "Peggy Mitchell" on the BBC One soap opera EastEnders from 1994 to 2016.
Windsor was made a Dame in 2016 for her services to charity and entertainment. She'd gone public in 2018 with an Alzheimer's diagnosis, and the BBC reported that she'd been moved to a care home in August 2020. She was 83.
