Orlando Bloom is paying tribute to his late dog, Mighty, with a brand-new tattoo! As Entertainment Tonight mentions, Mighty had been part of Bloom's family since 2017, and recently passed away after going missing in Montecito, California.
Bloom got an ace of spades with a heart and his dog's name
Bloom's tattoo, which is on his chest, features the name "Mighty" with an ace of spades inside a heart underneath. "Mighty’s on the other side now," he began the Instagram post in honour of his pooch, which he shared on Wednesday.
"After seven days of searching from sunrise to sunset and into the wee hours, today, the 7th day ~the number of completion~ we found his collar. I have wept more this week than I thought possible, which has been very cathartic and healing."
Bloom says Mighty taught him "the true meaning of devotion"
Bloom explained that the search for Mighty had been exhaustive, as they "left no stone unturned" in the search for his late pup. As the actor shares in his post, he crawled "thru all the man holes, under the roads, [searching] every back yard and creek bed," and deployed "two separate sniffer dogs" to try and find him.
"I feel so grateful to have learned from my little Mighty man that love is eternal and the true meaning of devotion," Bloom said. "I feel sure he was looking down on me whistling in every back yard and knowing that I was doing all I possibly could to respect our bond."
Bloom thanks those who supported him in search
Bloom went on to share just how much his dog meant to him. "He was more than a companion. It was a soul connection for sure," he said of the bond between him and Mighty. "I’m sorry. I love you. Thank you. RIP my MIGHTY HEART my little fellow A ♠️’s."
He also gave a heartfelt thank you to the community that supported him, which he mentioned helped him "see the best of people even in the worst of times." In addition, he specifically thanked Dog Days Search & Rescue for their efforts— calling them "heaven sent"— and his tattoo artist, Scott Campbell, for his new ink. "I love you, brother," he said to Campbell.
Bloom's celebrity friends share their condolences over Mighty
Bloom's Instagram post about Mighty garnered sympathy from many celebrities! As Entertainment Tonight mentions, several stars left supportive comments, including his fiancée, Katy Perry! "I love you," Perry wrote, her words simple yet meaningful.
"The tears won't stop," Jennifer Aniston said. "I'm so so so deeply sorry my friend. I love you." Cynthia Erivo shared that she felt "gutted" by the news. "My heart hurts for you, my man," Glen Powell said, while Luke Evans wrote "I'm sorry, buddy."
It's sad to see the search for Mighty has come to a sad end, as Bloom made a post about his missing dog on Sunday, sharing his hope that Mighty would be found! Thanks to his new tattoo though, Mighty will forever be with Bloom, who's looking forward to welcoming a baby with Perry!
