Michael C. Hall has given Dexter fans a better idea of what to expect when the show returns! As Entertainment Tonight shares, the actor— who stars as "Dexter Morgan" on the cult favourite Showtime crime drama— opened up about the revival in a new interview, explaining why it's finally happening after all these years!

Hall says that Dexter revival "is going to happen in real time"

Hall said that it took some time to get to the point where a Dexter continuation was viable. "I've been approached, unofficially, many times in the streets by people who have ideas," he told Entertainment Tonight's Ash Crossan. "But... I think there have been probably, before this, three legitimate ideas or concepts of what we might do and none of them felt right."

The actor also went on to talk about where the Dexter action will pick up! "This one, a lot of it has to do with time passed. This is going to happen in real time, as if as much time has passed since the finale happened," he explained. "And yeah, we kind of just got the creative band back together again. Clyde Phillips is back, who was the showrunner for the first four seasons, running the show."

Hall acknowledges fans weren't thrilled with Dexter's ending

Hall went on to talk about what the director of Dexter, Marcos Siega, envisions the show's continuation to look like! "He's like, 'We're gonna shoot it like a long, 10-hour movie.' It was a combination of the scripts and the timing," he said. "I always thought maybe the time will reveal itself when it's the right time to do it and it did."

The actor also revealed that he recently saw proof that production on the show is beginning to get underway! "And I'm excited," Hall enthused. "I was just visiting the sets the other day and it's real. It's really happening." He also addressed the fact that the show's initial ending back in 2011 left much to be desired for fans, which is part of the reason they decided to bring it back!

"The appetite for the reboot is a way facilitated by the fact that it was a less than satisfying ending for people," Hall said. "I want to find out what happened to the guy just as much as everybody else." Back in October of 2020, it was announced that Dexter would be returning to Showtime as a limited series, with a fall 2021 premiere date being eyed! Here's hoping that the Dexter revival will give fans everything they hope for this time around!
