Maggie Rogers: Her Amazing Rise To Fame

Ever since she was "discovered" by world-renowned producer Pharrell in 2012, Maggie Rogers has become one of THE singer-songwriters to watch out for. At now 27, the possibilities for her seem endless - we take a look at her rise to fame right here!

Margaret Debay Rogers grew up in Maryland and showed a talent for music early on, when she started playing the harp at age seven. She also took up piano and guitar and started writing songs when she was just eight years old.

She kept playing music and writing songs through high school and before her senior year recorded her first album (The Echo) in her broom closet that she turned into a makeshift studio. She was accepted into the prestigious Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at New York University and started there in 2012.

Maggie Rogers: Discovered by Pharrell Williams

She had actually considered a career in music journalism when she first came to NYU but kept on going with music production - she released her folk album Blood Ballet during her sophomore year at NYU in 2014. Then, in 2016, came the moment that changed her life, when she played her song "Alaska" for Pharrell Williams at a masterclass he was teaching for NYU.

His reaction to her unique song went viral and caused Rogers' two independent albums The Echo and Blood Ballet to receive thousands and thousands of more plays online. She went on to graduate from New York University's Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music with a degree in music engineering and production and English in May 2016. "Alaska" was already a hit at that time!

Maggie Rogers has become a superstar

After signing with Capitol Records, she released her first "official" EP "Now That the Light Is Fading" in 2017 and it became an amazing hit. Her first full-length album Heard It In A Past Life came out in January 2019. Her following tour was sold out quickly and she was even nominated as Best New Artist at the 62nd Grammy Awards in 2020.
