Kelly Clarkson is throwing it all the way back to the '50s with her latest "Kellyoke"! After having put her own spin on more modern hits recently in the popular segment, such as Selena Gomez's "Lose You To Love Me" and Halsey's "Graveyard", Clarkson performed a cover of Patsy Cline's "Walkin' After Midnight" on Thursday's episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show.
Clarkson stays true to the sound of Cline's original song
Clarkson may have added in a few signature vocal riffs here and there, but she and her band didn't attempt to modernize their version of "Walkin' After Midnight". Wearing a retro-looking chevron maxi dress with a bow at the front and her hair down in loose waves, Clarkson delivered a beautiful cover of Cline's song that was faithful to the original.
The Kelly Clarkson Show band's jazz accompaniment perfectly suited Clarkson's sultry tones, creating a musical combination evocative of the era when Cline originally recorded the song. Clarkson made the end of her "Walkin' After Midnight" a real show-stopper, belting it out as the audience applauded and cheered, giving her a standing ovation before the final notes.
