Katy Perry's sad past with mental health
Katy Perry is opening up about mental health and shares the reason behind the 2017 split from her now-fiancé Orlando Bloom. The pregnant star revealed how depressed she was at the time, and got candid about her unfortunate suicidal thoughts.
While appearing on CBC Radio’s Q, Perry opened up about what lead to the split and revealed that during the break-up, an additional setback in her career resulted in some dark days.
Expecting her album Witness to do much better than it did, Perry opens up about her disappointment in herself and shared that sales were nowhere near where she expected them to be.

She said to Evening Standard, "My career was on this trajectory when it was going up, up, and up, and then I had the smallest shift, not that huge from an outside perspective. But for me it was seismic."
The singer recalled how the shift "literally broke me in half," and went on to reveal, "I had broken up with my boyfriend, who is now my baby daddy-to-be and then I was excited about flying high off the next record. But the validation did not make me high, and so I just crashed."
She then went on to open up about suicidal thoughts she had, sharing that it was gratitude that saved her.

"Gratitude is probably the thing that saved my life because if I did not find that I would have wallowed in my own sadness and probably just jumped," she said.
"But I found the ways to be grateful. If it gets really, really hard I walk around and say, ‘I am grateful, I am grateful!’ even though I am in a sh--y mood," she said.
She also shared that turning to faith helped her in times of crisis, and went on to say, "It was so important for me to be broken so that I could find my wholeness in a whole different way and be more dimensional than just living my life like a thirsty pop star all the time."
Bloom and Perry thankfully reunited in 2018, got engaged in 2019 and in March of this year, announced that they are expecting a daughter.
