This morning iconic comedian Kathy Griffin shared her cancer diagnosis with the world.
Kathy Griffin Reveals Cancer Diagnosis
Kathy has just posted to social media with a heartfelt message: "I've got to tell you guys something. I have cancer. I'm about to go into surgery to have half of my left lung removed. Yes, I have lung cancer even though I've never smoked!"
"The doctors are very optimistic as it is stage one and contained to my left lung. Hopefully no chemo or radiation after this and I should have normal function with my breathing. I should be up and running around as usual in a month or less."
"It's been a helluva 4 years, trying to get back to work, making you guys laugh and entertaining you, but I'm gonna be just fine. Of course I am fully vaccinated for Covid. The consequences for being unvaccinated would have been even more serious. Please stay up to date on your medical check ups. It'll save your life. XXOO, KG."
Kathy has shown incredible strength in the face of such a scary diagnosis and has still managed to maintain her humor! She spoke with Nightline about her cancer saying "a friend of mine had said, 'How many kicks in the nuts can you take?' My nuts are pretty strong, but it's a challenge." She also explained she is "still a little bit in shock, not denial."
Kathy has had a tough few years as she faced a lot of backlash after making a paper mache head of Donald Trump and then lost her older brother Gary to esophageal cancer, her sister Joyce to cancer, and her mother Maggie to dementia last year. Luckily, the tough star has a lot of hope.
Countless of her friends have sent her messages of support. Andie MacDowell commented: "Wow So brave. My heart is wide-open for you. Thank God you found it early and will a safe recovery." Fellow comedian Nikki Glaser also wrote: "We love you Kathy! Thank you for being so honest and strong. You are an example to us all." Glee's Jane Lynch wrote, "I'm beaming out to you all my love and vibes for good health."
