Kate Hudson and Jimmy Fallon could have gone out at one point, but it just wasn't meant to be! The two met while filming the 2000 comedy Almost Famous, and while they had a close bond as friends, they didn't take it to the next level.
As People reports, Hudson appeared via video on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday, where she and Fallon talked about the relationship that never happened! "What a special experience for everybody that was," Hudson said of making Almost Famous. "And then there were like relationships that came out of it — oh, which by the way, we need to discuss".
Hudson said she 'had no idea' that Fallon was interested in her
Hudson and Fallon reminisced together about their experience behind the scenes of Almost Famous, looking back at the film with fond memories. "Some of the best laughs I've ever had in my lifetime were from that movie," Fallon said. That's when Hudson brought up something the Tonight Show host had admitted about their relationship.
"And then, you and I ended up hanging out all the time," she said. "And when you were doing your show, I had like 100 people send me that clip". The clip Hudson made reference to was part of a segment on Fallon's show in December. In it, he and guest Margot Robbie played a game where Fallon mentioned Hudson as a former co-star he could have dated, but ultimately didn't!

"I was like 'I had no idea,'" Hudson admitted. "I wish people could be in my body to watch you and I's relationship and friendship because you gave me no indication".
Fallon revealed that he on the other hand "had felt a little indication" that there could be something between them. "I thought we were good together," he said. "We were good buddies. We hung out all the time".
Hudson revealed she was waiting for Fallon to make a move
Hudson went on to say that if Fallon had actually indicated he was interested in her, she would have been interested into pursuing a relationship with him! "Jimmy, if you would have actually made a move I would have totally gone there," she revealed. "No, you wouldn't have!" the host exclaimed.
"Yes, of course!" Hudson said emphatically. "I remember thinking to myself like, 'Why has Jimmy never made a move?' And then I just kind of realized, 'Oh, he's not into me like that.' I was just like 'Okay, well whatever.' And so, then I met Chris [Robinson]".

Hudson and Fallon agree that things turned out "perfectly"
Hudson's recounting of past events caught Fallon by surprise, as the host insisted that the story played out differently. Still, Hudson was insistent that the potential for a relationship between them was very real at the time!
"I was a single girl in New York and life was what it was," she explained. "If you would've been like 'Hey,' you know, who knows, our whole life trajectory could have been differently, Jimmy".
But while Hudson and Fallon never got romantically involved, they're both pretty satisfied with where they ended up! "Everything turned out perfectly," Fallon said. "Exactly the way it was supposed to," Hudson replied, agreeing with his sentiment.
Fallon is married to television producer Nancy Juvonen and the pair have two daughters— 6-and-a-half-year-old Winnie Rose, and 5-year-old Frances Cole. Hudson is currently dating musician Danny Fujikawa, and became a mom for the third time in 2018 when she welcomed daughter Rani Rose.
