2020 marks the 23rd anniversary of the Selena biopic movie from 1997. Sadly, it also marks 25 years since the death of singer Selena Quintanilla. Jennifer Lopez took to Instagram to encourage everyone to celebrate the singer who was lost too soon. Lopez portrayed the musician in Selena.

In the three-minute video, J-Lo discusses the importance of Selena's music and how much it meant for her to portray the late singer in 1997. The video includes clips from the film, scenes from Selena's life, and interviews with Lopez.
Selena enjoyed a very successful music career before was tragically murdered in 1995 by a former employee. She was just 23-years-old.

"Selena was such an inspiration to me and I was so lucky to be chosen to play her. As an artist, [Selena] truly was an experience I’m going to remember for the rest of my life," the Instagram post reads. The singer and actress then asked fans to post memories of Selena using the hashtag #CelebratingSelena.
Fans of Selena can also look forward to a new version of her story in 2020. A six-part series about the Tejano music singer is also coming to Netflix in 2020. This time around, actress Christian Serratos will portray Selena in Selena: The Series.
