Glenn Close is opening up about her shining moment at the 2021 Oscars! On Tuesday, the Hillbilly Elegy star made an Instagram post that saw her looking back at this year's ceremony, as she explained what led to her now-infamous dance to "Da Butt".
Close says that she was prepared to be asked about "Da Butt"
Close began her Oscars retrospective by talking about how much fun she had with her "wonderful table mates" during the awards show. She mentioned that she was seated with her good friend screenwriter Chris Terrio, as well as Judas and the Black Messiah stars Daniel Kaluuya and Darrell Britt-Gibson, sharing a picture of the four of them together!
And while Close surprised viewers with her knowledge of the song "Da Butt" on Sunday night, the actress revealed why she was familiar with the '80s R&B jam! "I knew that Lil Rel was going to quiz me about Da Butt," she said, "and all three guys helped me run through what I was to say."
Close shares her dance was "completely spontaneous"
Close then went on to share that it had been Britt-Gibson who requested she specifically mention "the Backyard Band, on top of E.U., Suga Bear and the whole DMV" during the sketch. She also admitted to having looked up the song's music video beforehand.
But while the question about "Da Butt" may have been scripted, Close explained that no one had actually expected her to dance to the '80s R&B song! "That part was completely spontaneous," Close said. "Daniel, Darrell and Chris egged me on!!!"
Close concluded her post by congratulating Kaluuya on his Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, calling him "completely brilliant." She also said that she now considers Kaluuya and Britt-Gibson "friends-for-life" after bonding with them at their Oscars table!
