Is Bill Nye A Real Scientist...?

... Yes! Bill Nye has a very impressive background that not many know about. Bill's father, "Ned" was a Japanese POW for four years who used the shadow of a shovel to tell time while Bill's mother Jacqueline was a code-breaker for the Navy in WWII. Being raised by such brilliant and brave parents, Bill was destined for greatness.

He studied at the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the highly esteemed Cornell University! His passion for science increased exponentially after taking an astronomy course with Carl Sagan himself!

Bill then worked for Boeing and even invented an impressive "hydraulic resonance suppressor tube" that ended up being used in all Boeing 747's! He also applied for NASA's astronaut training program 4 times but sadly was rejected each time. Lucky for us because then he put his efforts into the work we know him for now!

Bill Nye's Rise To Fame

Nye realized his interest in entertainment after he won a Steve Martin lookalike contest and his friends begged him to do impressions so he dabbled in stand-up. He told Fast Company "I was working on business jet navigation systems, laser gyroscope systems during the day, and I'd take a nap and go do stand-up comedy by night."

He really got his foot in the door when he would call in on a Seattle radio station to answer questions. He did so well that every day that "I called him every day at 4:45 and answered a listener question." This led to him doing a six-minute comedy science show!

Inevitably, Bill Nye the Science Guy was born! His show, produced by Disney, reached millions across the country. He taught all kinds of scientific concepts that were being taught in school but were not resonating with students. He figured out the key to making boring studies into exciting concepts!

Bill's show won a whopping nineteen of the 23 Emmys it was nominated for! He is still a major force in the scientific community, often doing his best to drum up support for major groups or issues like climate change. His show has since revamped and even grown in popularity because his show didn't just resonate with children, but also with adults!

He even earned his own Netflix production Bill Nye Saves The World. He is easily one of the most well-known advocates for science and research and is actually a real scientist! We can't wait to see whatever he does next! "Bill, Bill, Bill, Bill, Bill, Bill, Bill Nye the Science Guy!"
