'Empire': This Is Trai and Grace Byers Love Story

Trai and Grace Byers met on the set of the hit Fox series Empire in 2015, and the rest has been history since. It goes without saying that the two make an incredibly good-looking couple on the red carpet, and are deeply in love with each other. When Trai Byers and Grace Byers (née Gealey) were cast in the drama show Empire back in 2015, they didn't know they would become each other's soulmate. In fact, Grace, who is originally from the Cayman Islands, was in a serious relationship with someone else when she first met Trai...

Trai and Grace Byers' unexpected connection

Grace stated on The Real talk show that she and her previous boyfriend "we're going to get married" but that the "spiritual connection wasn't really there."

Upon meeting Trai, "the idea of dating him wasn't feasible to me", she further added, but the spiritual connection was immediately struck between the two.

Weeks later, she realized it was time to break up with her then-boyfriend. That same week, "God woke [Trai] up and told him I was his wife", she continued to tell the show. The pair didn't know this information until months after they started dating, but their relationship certainly seemed destined!

Trai and Grace's engagement and wedding

Their engagement was a huge surprise to fans of Empire and the Byers', as it was first announced on the daytime talk show FABLife with hosts Tyra Banks and Chrissy Teigen. Grace additionally expressed her views on a workplace relationship:

"I think that if two people are mature and they’re able to understand that if this doesn't work out – cause first, I’m not a fan of flings when you work, cause that’s where it gets a little dangerous. [...] I think that if you do get involved at your workplace you have to know that this is something that you want to be invested in, and this is just not just something that is frivolous and fleeting."

The pair were officially engaged in 2015 and exchanged nuptials on April 14, 2016, in Grace's home country - Grand Cayman Island. The ceremony was intimate with close family and friends on the beach. Sounds (and looks) like a dream!

Grace played the role of "Anika Calhoun" from 2015-2018 on Empire, while Trai played "Andre Lyon" from 2015-2020 on the award-winning series. The couple also appeared together in the 2018 film Bent! Cheers to another year for the beautiful couple!
