Carrie Ann Inaba has revealed how she feels about Dancing With The Stars getting a brand-new host! As Entertainment Tonight reports, Inaba appeared on daytime talk show The Talk in an interview set to air on Tuesday, and shared her reaction after finding out Tyra Banks would be taking over from Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews.
Inaba shocked by departure: "I cried when I heard the news"
Inaba said that she was not expecting longtime hosts Bergeron and Andrews to exit DWTS. "I feel like it was just such sudden news," she said of the announcement. "My heart breaks for Tom and Erin. I cried when I heard the news, as well as, I think a lot of our fans did."
When asked if she and her fellow judges Bruno Tonioli and Len Goodman will return, Inaba said that "as of now, that is the plan," as far as she knows. "That is the plan, that we’re coming back. But they’re going make the official announcement in a few weeks," she explained. "They're just going to keep letting us know all the details. I don’t want people to worry. It seems like everything is okay."
Inaba on Banks joining DWTS as host: "She's like a visionary"
Inaba also acknowledged how many have commented on Banks being the first Black host of DWTS. "Season 1 we had Lisa Canning [co-host with Bergeron]," she said. "Also, I don't think that’s how we should be labeling her. [Banks is] our new host. Period. It has nothing to do with the color of her skin."
"I think it has to do with all that Tyra Banks is. All the energy she has. She’s like a visionary, she's a strong, powerful woman," Inaba enthused. "I think we're in good hands. It’s different, the fans are going to have to get used to it, I understand that, but I think we should welcome her."
Banks will also be serving as executive producer on DWTS. She made a statement after she was announced as host, sharing what she loves about the show and that she's excited to become a part of it! While fans may be apprehensive about the change, it seems like Dancing With The Stars will be in good hands!
