Blake Shelton has opened up about his wedding song to Gwen Stefani as he gives the world the opportunity to hear it for the first time! On Thursday, People shared the statement Shelton wrote about "We Can Reach The Stars," which saw him share how the song came to be.
Shelton wanted vow song to "stand the test of time"
Shelton explained that while he and Stefani chose to pen their wedding vows themselves, he "decided to surprise her by writing a song instead." That's when the country crooner enlisted the help of a good friend to make his idea a reality! Shelton said he teamed up with "world-class songwriter" Craig Wiseman, since he was looking to "write and structure something that would stand the test of time."
The end result of their efforts was "We Can Reach The Stars," a beautiful ballad that celebrates the love between Shelton and Stefani over time. In the emotional song, Shelton reflects on their relationship, from the giddiness of their first kiss to how he feels Stefani "saved my heart." "And I know we can reach the stars/That's how far my love will go for you," Shelton sings in the chorus.
Shelton went on to say that he is "really proud" of the song that served as his wedding vow, and "thrilled" it's out there for people to hear. He also said that he and Stefani "want everyone to know" about their lifelong commitment. "That's why we got married in the first place," he remarked. Shelton and Stefani met as coaches on The Voice and have also been musical partners, teaming up to release the love song "Happy Anywhere" last year.
