Blake Shelton is optimistic that his plans to marry Gwen Stefani this year will go ahead! On Wednesday, Shelton appeared on Today with Hoda & Jenna, where he opened up about how he hopes his impending nuptials— and future with Stefani— will play out.
Shelton shares why he and Stefani want a summer wedding
Shelton joined Hoda Kotb for the morning talk show, taking on the role of guest host as he filled in for Jenna Bush. He revealed to Kotb that he and Stefani are currently aiming to have their wedding "this summer," telling her why it would be the ideal time for them to tie the knot!
The country singer mentioned that because of the uncertainties of the pandemic, a summer wedding is "tentatively the plan." However, he doesn't want to put it off too long! "I'm afraid if she and I wait until next November, then I'm right back into The Voice cycle again," he explained. "And I really want to be able to have plenty of time before and after."
Shelton wants to settle down with Stefani "sooner than later"
Shelton also joked that his wedding to Stefani is "starting to sound like a Coachella lineup" because some major stars want to be involved! Last year, Shelton said that he wants Maroon 5 to play at their wedding, and lead singer Adam Levine recently shared that he would be "honoured" to do so! Miley Cyrus has also shown interest in the gig.
While Shelton said that he'd "love to be able to take everybody up on their offer and have this amazing concert wedding," he also said he isn't sure what things will look like in the summer. Still, the Voice coach is looking ahead to his and Stefani's future together, telling Kotb he hopes they'll be able to have a quieter life together sometime within the next few years!
"I'd like to see that sooner than later," he said of settling down with the No Doubt singer. "I mean, we've both pretty much taken it to the limit as far as our careers go, and touring and now the television thing." Shelton also shared that down the road, he and Stefani hope they'll "get a chance to live some life," saying that he feels they're "both ready" to do so!
