Angela Bassett movies would begin to take off in the early 1990s. Born August 16, 1958, in NYC, Angela was a bright and gifted child destined for success. Growing up listening to the Jackson 5, Angela developed an interest in entertainment at an early age, often putting on performances for her family alongside her sister.
After graduating with a bachelors in African-American studies from Yale University, followed by a masters from the Yale School of Drama, Angela would become the first in her family to have gone to both college and graduate school!

Getting her start in the NYC theater scene, it wouldn't take Angela long to begin to make a name for herself. Shortly after moving to LA in the late 1980s, she would begin to rise to fame with roles in Boyz in the Hood (1991) and Malcom X (1991).
The biggest role of Angela's early career would come in 1993 when she landed the part of "Tina Turner" in the biographical film What's Love Got to Do with It. Going on to win both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Best Actress, Angela Bassett would become a name everyone recognized! In preparation for the role, she even had the chance to meet the legendary Tina Turner, who helped her with style and makeup tips!

Angela Bassett would continue to take on a number of strong and smart African-American females over the years including:
- as "Katherine Jackson" in The Jacksons: An American Dream (1992)
- as "Voletta Wallace" in Notorious (2009)
- as "Coretta Scott King" in Betty & Coretta (2013)
Most recently Angela took on the part of "Queen Ramonda" in hit Marvel film Black Panther as well as reprising the role in 2019's Avengers: Endgame. Don't miss her in the 2024 films Orion and the Dark and Damsel.
During her time at Yale, Angela would meet her future husband, actor Courtney B. Vance. Today the couple are still happily married and have two beautiful children together, twins Slater and Bronwyn.
