'Black Mass' is based on the true story of Boston crime boss and FBI informant James Bulger. Director Scott Cooper decided to show only the active years of the criminal, except for a final scene. Thus, many parts were cut from the film and Sienna Miller, who had portrayed Bulger's longtime partner Catherine Greig, was also history. According to the director, the scenes no longer made sense or fit into the rhythm of the film.
