The Escape Artist Strikes Again!

Roman Polanski, the legendary director behind hits like 'The Pianist' and 'The Palace', has found himself at the center of controversy yet again. At 91 years old, Polanski has settled a lawsuit over an alleged sexual assault on a minor that took place nearly half a century ago, sidestepping a trial that was set for August 2025.

The case was "settled in the summer to the parties’ mutual satisfaction and has now been formally dismissed," it quoted the attorney as saying.

Gloria Allred, the plaintiff’s lawyer, confirmed the settlement to the 'AFP.'

The civil lawsuit, filed by an unidentified plaintiff in Los Angeles Superior Court and seeking unspecified damages, accused Polanski of raping a minor in 1973 after giving her alcohol. It was filed just before the expiration of a California law that allowed for an extended window for claims against the alleged perpetrators of sexual crimes.

Polanski, no stranger to legal drama, fled the United States in the late '70s after a plea bargain went south. He had admitted to the statutory rape of a 13-year-old, served 42 days in jail, and then bolted when he got wind of the judge's second thoughts about his release.

Fast forward to today, and it seems Polanski has managed another Houdini act. Filed just in the nick of time before a California law's expiration...

Both parties have now reached a settlement that has been described as mutually satisfactory, leading to the formal dismissal of the case. "A settlement of claims was agreed to by the parties to their mutual satisfaction," confirmed Allred.

Despite the settlement, the shadow of controversy will likely continue to loom over Polanski.
