- Kim Kardashian causes a stir
- Wears Lady Di's iconic jewelry
- Sparks fierce criticism
Kim Kardashian (44) stirred up significant controversy at the LACMA Art + Film Gala, where she donned a striking white gown with a deep neckline, complemented by the iconic amethyst and diamond cross necklace famously worn by Princess Diana.
This historic piece, known as the Attallah Cross, was first seen on Diana at a charity gala in 1987. Owned by Naim Attallah, former CEO of the British luxury brand Asprey, the cross held a notable place in Diana’s wardrobe throughout the 1980s. Kim Kardashian acquired it at a Sotheby’s auction in London in January 2023 for $200,000, according to Sky News.
While some fans admired her bold fashion choice, others were critical. One fan remarked on social media, “I do not know who allows it, but can we please STOP giving Kim Kardashian access to iconic pieces of fashion and jewelry worn by icons such as Marilyn Monroe’s dress and Princess Diana’s necklace - it loses all its significance on her.” Another comment read, “Justice for Princess Di; she doesn’t deserve to be disrespected like this.” On Platform X, someone labeled the appearance “the definition of vulgarity.”
Despite the backlash, supporters praised Kardashian’s style. “Kim Kardashian always makes a statement at events like the LACMA Art + Film Gala! Her style is consistently captivating,” wrote one Instagram user. Another added, “Let her wear what she wants! She bought the necklace!”
