Chaos Walking has been one of Hollywood's most troubled productions in recent years, but it will finally hit theatres in 2021. The film, an adaptation of the novel by Patrick Ness, debuted a first trailer today, also revealing a premiere early next year. The cast features Tom Holland, Daisy Ridley, Mads Mikkelsen, Demián Bichir, Cynthia Erivo, David Oyelowo, Óscar Jaenada, and Nick Jonas.
Chaos Walking: Watch trailer with Tom Holland & Daisy Ridley
After nearly two years of delays, reshoots, and cast changes, Chaos Walking will finally be released. Doug Liman (Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow) directs the sci-fi action film, with Spider-Man actor Holland and Star Wars actress Ridley in the leads.
The film follows the story of "Todd Hewitt" (Holland), a young inhabitant of a world recently colonized by humans. He meets "Viola" (Ridley), a mysterious native girl who can hear all his thoughts.
After they meet, "Todd" and "Viola" become key to the survival of the Prentisstown colony's population, who face an impending attack from a deadly alien army.
Chaos Walking's many production missteps
Chaos Walking was originally scheduled to premiere in January 2019, but the production was delayed several times.
Perhaps the most notable event occurred when the studio ordered a reshoot of several scenes they found unconvincing. But that plan was compounded by Holland and Ridley being busy with Spider-Man and Star Wars shoots, further delaying the film.
Chaos Walking is set to premiere in theatres on Jan. 28, 2021, assuming the pandemic doesn't disrupt the schedule any further.
