Should Yellowstone fans be worried about Kevin Costner's big news?
As "John Dutton," Costner revived his status as a Western-genre star on Yellowstone. But he just announced plans about a different Western project. Meanwhile, Yellowstone has not yet been renewed for a new season.
Yellowstone's Kevin Costner is making a new Western movie
Today, the 67-year-old actor told Deadline he is directing a new film called Horizon, which has long been his "passion project."
The outlet notes Horizon is a 15-year Western epic set in the West before and after the American Civil War.
It starts casting in February and plans to shoot this summer. So that's pretty soon. It's unclear if Costner will act in the film or just direct.
His announcement didn't come with any comment on Yellowstone. The season 4 finale aired in early January, and all has been quiet on a potential season 5.
Is "John Dutton" exiting Yellowstone season 5?
Despite no official announcement on Yellowstone season 5, creator Taylor Sheridan previously hinted that production will begin in the spring of 2022.
Yellowstone is also one of TV's top-rated series, so it'd be stunning if it got cancelled.
As for "John Dutton," he has made it through a lot in four seasons, and he's gearing up for a nasty political showdown with "Jamie" (Wes Bentley) next season.
Kevin Costner fans will hope his new movie can go ahead alongside Yellowstone.
Horizon would be his first directorial effort since Open Range in 2003. His only others were Dances with Wolves and The Postman.
