Not even a wish to the Blue Fairy could make this choice more perfect. According to Variety, American actor Tom Hanks is in talks with Disney to play "Geppetto" in the live-action adaptation of Pinocchio that has been in the works since 2018. In addition to adding another memorable film to his long list of outstanding roles, Hanks would return to work with director Robert Zemeckis, who directed the classic films starring Hanks such as Forrest Gump, Cast Away, and The Polar Express.
Pinocchio: Tom Hanks in talks to be "Geppetto"
According to many news outlets in the United States, the Oscar-winning actor began negotiations with Disney studios to have the leading role in the live-action version that Disney has been preparing for one of its greatest animated classics.
If Hanks commits to the role, he would be the first confirmed actor for the ambitious project, which was originally directed by Paul King and produced by David Heyman, both responsible for the first two installments of Paddington.
Pinocchio, the Disney live-action will still take place
Although it is one of the most anticipated titles in Disney's classic repertoire, the live-action adaptation of Pinocchio will not begin production right away. So Tom Hanks could finish working on Elvis Presley's biopic, which had begun filming in Australia prior to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Zemeckis will also be able to fulfill previous commitments, including the premiere of The Witches, the most recent adaptation of the classic book by Roald Dahl starring Anne Hathaway and Octavia Spencer.
