Let’s start with the leading characters. Although, according to Cameron, "Rose DeWitt Bukater" and "Jack Dawson" are fictitious characters, but there really was a passenger called J. Dawson on the Titanic. His first name was not Jack though, but Joseph, and he was a part of the ship’s crew. Nonetheless, there are still fans out there who still lay down flowers on the grave of the wrong Mr. Dawson...

Boy, did we enjoy the timeless love story between "Jack" and "Rose", and still do to this day. In reality, however, such a romance would have never been possible, because of the strict rules on the ship. Out of fear that passengers from the third class could spread diseases upstairs, they were not allowed to even come close to the upper classes. Even if they would have saved the life of a beautiful red-haired girl...

All lovers of beautiful jewelry, listen closely! Whoever has always been jealous of "Rose" because of her diamond-necklace 'Heart of the Ocean': There's no reason to feel that way. The piece of jewelry, as it was shown in the movie, never existed! However, the design of the necklace was based on the 'Hope Diamond' of the French king Louis XIV, which is on exhibition in Washington D.C. by the way.

Another inconsistency of the movie are the paintings of Monet and Picasso, which "Rose" brought aboard of the "Titanic". Both Monet's "Water Lilies" and Picasso's "Les Demoiselles d'Avignon" are still on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and were in fact never aboard the "Titanic".

The upcoming fact might suggest that the main characters in the movie are actually clairvoyant. “Jack” wants to take “Rose” to the Santa Monica Pier to ride the roller coaster with her. The interesting aspect here is, that said roller coaster was opened in 1916, four years after the sinking of the Titanic. Also, “Rose” quotes works by Siegmund Freud, which were published years after the tragedy of the Titanic.

Many of us still get angry seeing the scenes, in which almost empty rescue boats float away from the sinking "Titanic", while so many passengers are still fighting for their lives aboard the ship. Was that really the case? Unfortunately, yes! Many of the rescue boats were only half full. Only two of all the 16 rescue boats turned around to save more people's lives.
