'The Sound of Music': This Is The Cast Today

'The Sound of Music' can be considered one of the most spectacular movies of the 20th century, reaching mass popularity all around the world. This movie was actually roughly based off of a book written by Maria von Trapp, who turns out to be one of the main characters in the film. This masterpiece, as well as the actors themselves, have aged remarkably over the past 55 years. Here is what they look like today!

"Captain von Trapp", played by Christopher Plummer, was an Austro-Hungarian Navy Officer who served in World War I. After the war he returned to his family only to lose his first wife to scarlet fever. Having a large family, with 7 children altogether, and losing most of his fortune after the Great Depression, his later wife "Maria von Trapp" was really able to save the day...

Christopher Plummer had an extensive film career over the past 70 years. From one of his biggest successes in 'The Sound of Music' (1965), all the way to the modern-day movies like 'All The Money in the World' (2017), Plummer had shown time and time again that you're never too old to act! Plummer has received numerous awards from Oscars all the way to Emmys. Christopher Plummer sadly passed away on February 5, 2021. He was 91 years old. 

Eleanor Parker also had an extensive career in show business. She had a number of roles in movies like 'Three Secrets' (1950), 'Dectective Story' (1951), for which she both received an Oscar nominations. Her biggest success, popularity-wise, was in 'The Sound of Music' in 1965 playing the role of "Baroness Elsa Schraeder". Sadly, our lovely Baroness died on December 9th, 2013 in her Palm Springs home.

Nicholas Hammond was only about 15 when he got his one of his more notable roles as "Friedrich von Trapp" in 'The Sound of Music' back in 1965. What many people don't know is that Hammond actually played the role of "Peter Parker" in the mini series 'Spider-Man' back in the 70's. That's not all. He also guest starred in numerous cult classic such as 'The Love Boat,' 'Magnum P.I.,' and 'Murder, She Wrote.' He moved to Sydney after his divorce in 1980, where he still currently resides.

People remember Kym Karath mostly because of her role as "Gretl von Trapp" in 'The Sound of Music.' She has had a number of small roles in various movies and TV shows, but nothing too major. Amusingly enough, she still isn't all that fond of water due the fact that she almost drowned during the boat scene in 'The Sound of Music.'

Debbie Turner never really continued to pursue acting after playing the role of "Marta von Trapp" in 'The Sound of Music.' After the production of the movie officially ended, Turner decided to go back to school and get her diploma. She decided to open a floral design company later in her adult life and is still currently working in the same field.

Angela Cartwright does not too many acting credits and is mostly known for her role as "Brigitta von Trapp" in 'The Sound of Music.' Afterwards she starred in numerous TV shows that were popular at the time, such as 'Lost in Space' (1965-68). She has been married to Steve Guillon since 1976 and they have two children.

Charmian Carr actually studied in San Fernando Valley State College at the time she auditioned for the role of "Liesl von Trapp". After her role in the movie, Carr moved on to play a number of small roles in different shows before leaving show business for good. She also owned an interior design company and wrote two books before passing in 2016 at the age of 73.

Having have a played a much more minor role ("Louisa von Trapp") in 'The Sound of Music,' she was still able to get a few guest appearances in TV shows such in 'The Six Million Dollar Man' (1975) and 'The Love Boat' (1978) as well as roles in movies such as 'Piranha' (1978). She married actor Robert Urich in 1975 with whom she was with until he died in 2002. They adopted three kids together.
