It was almost 25 years ago when the American drama film The Shawshank Redemption was released. Written and directed by Frank Darabont, the film is based on the 1982 best-selling author Stephen King's novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption. And now it seems that fans will have the opportunity to watch it again very soon!

The film tells the story of "Andy Dufresne", portrayed by Tim Robbins, a man who is sentenced to two consecutive life terms in prison for the murders of his wife and her lover. Only "Andy" knows that he did not commit the crimes, and while being in prison he meets "Ellis", portrayed by Morgan Freeman, who becomes his friend. The Shawshank Redemption is considered to be a classic and one of the most popular films of all time. After its original release in 1994 it was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Actor for Morgan Freeman and Best Picture.
The film will return for its 25th anniversary
In order to celebrate The Shawshank Redemption's 25th anniversary, Fathom Events and TCM Big Screen Classics announced a re-release of the movie and fans couldn't help but feel very excited! The anniversary screenings will take place in different theaters across the United States on September 22nd, 24th and 25th.
