Fran Drescher (60) portrayed "Fran Fine's" extravagant style, determination to marry and talent with children perfectly in The Nanny. However, after 146 episodes The Nanny came to an end and we had to say goodbye to "Fran Fine" and "Maxwell Sheffield" (Charles Shaughnessy) in 1999.
Fran Drescher explained why the series finished in an interview with "Studio 10" recently: "When a show is built around a love that cannot happen, sexual tension, you have to keep it that way. As much as you want the people to get together, as soon as they do, people start tuning out".
The Nanny: "Fran Fine" and "Mister Sheffield" shouldn't have got together
Even though the show's writers simply followed its audience's wishes, it meant that "Fran" and "Mister Sheffield's" story had come to an end of sorts. "We did not want them to get together," said Fran in the interview. Even though the show came to an end, we are sure that fans everywhere were secretly overjoyed about the happy ending.
