- The live-action adaptation of 'The Little Mermaid' is coming soon
- Harry Styles could have played the male lead in it
- Here's why he refused
Could you see Harry Styles as "Prince Eric" in 'The Little Mermaid'?. It's not a bad idea, really, but the singer turned down the role in the new live-action adaptation of the Disney classic years ago. What was the reason for the rejection?
That's why Harry Styles isn't in 'The Little Mermaid'
With the film's release just around the corner, there is finally some clarity as director Rob Marshall reveals Harry Styles' motivations.
Also interesting:
"We met with him. He was lovely. What a wonderful guy. But in the end, he really felt like he wanted to do the films that he did, which were a bit darker.", Marshall told 'EW'.
These include his leading roles in the films 'Don't Worry Darling' and 'My Policeman'.
“A lot of young musicians like Harry are trying to make their way and don't necessarily want to be seen as a singer. So he really wanted to do something that doesn't fall into the musical genre, to really flourish [...]", Marshall continues to explain.
In the end, Jonah Hauer-King landed the role of "Prince Eric" in 'The Little Mermaid'. The movie, starring him and Halle Bailey, is scheduled for release on May 25th.
