The 23-year-old Byrne is best-known for roles as a child actor in films including Mr. Nobody. He's since appeared in a series of little-known short films.

The Crown season 4: What we know so far
Thomas Byrne joins the cast of The Crown for its upcoming fourth season. It hasn't been uncommon for the Netflix series to cast relative unknowns in major roles.
The Crown season 4 shifts into the 1980s, where Byrne will portray Prince Andrew, son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, in his early 20s.
Season 4 is expected to primarily focus on Charles and Diana's relationship, however.

Prince Andrew's present-day controversy
The Crown's casting announcement comes at a tricky time given Prince Andrew's real-life scandal. He remains in the middle of controversy surrounding his relationship with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
In the meantime, Andrew has stepped back from his royal duties.
The Crown season 4 could return as soon as late 2020, or possibly into 2021. It's thought that the show will conclude after its fifth season.
