After years of allegations by a number of different women, he was found guilty of three counts of aggravated indecent assault and sentenced to three to ten years in prison in 2018. He was incarcerated at the State Correctional Institution in Pennsylvania before his sentence was overturned in 2021, resulting in his release.

She was married to musician Lenny Kravitz from 1997 until 1993 and married fellow actor Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones, Justice League) in 2005. Bonet and Momoa announced their separation in 2022.
