Stranger Things fans will be excited to learn that season 4 has started filming once again! As People shares, it was announced via social media on Thursday that the hit Netflix show is back in production!
Stranger Things teases return to filming fourth season
Stranger Things had just started production of its fourth season a month before the coronavirus pandemic caused a worldwide shutdown! While it was uncertain when the show would be able to get underway again, the official Stranger Things Twitter account seemed to answer that question on Thursday!
"Meanwhile in the upside down..." they tweeted alongside a photo tinged with eerie blue lighting, showing a clapboard being held up in front of a clock. Netflix also posted the same photo on Twitter, but with a different caption! "Today in Hawkins...," the streaming platform wrote.
Stranger Things season 4: here's what we know so far!
Stranger Things' fourth season may not have a release date yet, but fans are already excited that some of the plot details have been teased! In February, the first teaser trailer for season 4 was released, showing a short clip of David Harbour's character "Hopper," who's still alive in Russia!
According to Entertainment Weekly, the new season will see "Hopper" "imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human… and other." As for Millie Bobby Brown's "Eleven," Noah Schnapp's "Will," Winona Ryder's "Joyce" and more, it sounds like they'll be facing some pretty terrifying forces as well.
"Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything…" the show's creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, said in a statement. "Season 4 is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for everyone to see more. In the meantime — pray for the American."
Stranger Things creators know when the show will end
Stranger Things fans will be glad to learn that the show's upcoming fourth season won't be its last! As People shares, the show's co-creators have already mapped out their future plans for the show— including how it will wrap up! "We know what the end is, and we know when it is," Matt Duffer told The Hollywood Reporter.
"[The pandemic] has given us time to look ahead, figure out what is best for the show," he explained. "Starting to fill that out gave us a better idea of how long we need to tell that story." Ross Duffer also said that they've been able to make sense of the big picture of the show over the past few months.
"We've had a lot more time to work on the scripts," he revealed. "For the first time, we have all the scripts written and we're able to look at it as a whole piece and make adjustments."
Whether or not the rumour of Netflix preparing a Stranger Things movie to wrap up the series turns out to be true, it seems that fans don't have to worry about saying goodbye to the show any time soon! And with season 4 finally starting to film, we can't wait to take another trip to the Upside Down!
