In the 2020 version of West Side Story, Ansel Elgort will play "Tony," while Ariana DeBose stars as "Anita" and Rachel Zegler plays "Maria." Rita Moreno, "Anita" in the original 1961 film, portrays "Valentina" this time around.

Elgort is best-known for roles in Baby Driver, Divergent, and The Fault in Our Stars. Ariana DeBose, meanwhile, is a Broadway star who also appeared on So You Think You Can Dance. West Side Story will be Zegler's first acting credit.
West Side Story in 2020: What's new in the remake?
The 2020 remake of West Side Story will still tell the same story of gang rivalry and romance. Spielberg's film, however, intends to improve on the original movie's problems with representation - in the 1961 film, some Puerto Rican characters were portrayed by white actors.
"I really wanted to tell that Puerto Rican, Nuyorican experience of basically the migration to this country and the struggle to make a living, and to have children, and to battle against the obstacles of xenophobia and racial prejudice," Spielberg said.
