'Shrek' Turns 20: A Look Back on the Franchise

Ten years after Disney released a straightforward fairytale in the form of Beauty and the Beast, DreamWorks released their own fairytale that was quite different. Unlike most Disney films, Shrek was full of modern-day humour and satire but it was still balanced with serious storytelling and that made Shrek the success that it is.

There are a number of films that many would be surprised to learn are turning 20 years old this year: A Knight's Tale, Monsters Inc., Ocean's Eleven and The Fellowship of the Ring. DreamWorks Animation released Shrek that year and it led to a franchise that may yet continue with future films. Watch the video above to learn more.
