'Sex and the City' Cast Through The Years

First airing in 1998 on HBO, it wouldn't take long for romantic comedy-drama series Sex and the City to receive critical acclaim. Following the lives of four women in their mid-thirties and forties as they navigate the challenges of love and friendship in the Big Apple, Sex and the City would air for six incredible seasons and be followed up by two motion picture films! Having won numerous awards over the years, including 7 Emmy Awards and 8 Golden Globes, and lauded by critics as one of the best television series of all time, join us in taking a look at how the cast members have changed throughout the years! 

Of course the series wouldn't be what it is today without the show's leading lady "Carrie Bradshaw"! As both the narrator and the main protagonist, each episode centers around "Carrie's" job as a writer for the New York Star's weekly "Sex and the City" column. Whether inspiring us with her unique fashion sense or winning us over with her hopeless romantic charm, "Carrie" is a friend we would all love to have! 

Even at 60 years old, American actress Sarah Jessica Parker is still as gorgeous and inspiring as her on-screen character! Just as her on-screen character finds love in the end, Sarah Jessica Parker has also married the man of her dreams, actor Matthew Broderick. The couple of over 20 years, now have three children together: son James and twin daughters Marion and Tabitha. Her daughters are extremely lucky to have such a fashion forward mother!

As the oldest of the group, "Samantha Jones" is known for her confidence both in the boardroom and bedroom! Self-labeled a "try-sexual", "Samantha" was an early pioneer in defying sexual stereotypes, putting herself first before any man or sometimes women! 

At 68, British born Canadian actress, Kim Cattrall shares a lot in common with her on-screen character! While the actress has been married and divorced three times, plus a brief relationship to Pierre Trudeau, father of former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, she proves that she doesn't need a man to be successful and has most recently served as an executive producer on HBO Canada series 'Sensitive Skin'. You'll also catch Kim starring in the satirical drama series 'Filthy Rich'!

The third member of Sex and the City's favorite lady squad is perfectionist "Charlotte York".  She's quite the opposite of her friend "Samantha" and is a believer in true love and finding her soul mate! While her first marriage may have ended in disappoint, "Charlotte" finally finds her leading man in the end and builds the family she always dreamed of having!

American actress Kristin Davis may share a few qualities with her on-screen character, but the two are very different people! Never married, Kristin Davis is a strong and independent woman who has adopted two beautiful children as a single mother! The 60 year old now hosts her own dating television game show called 'Labor of Love' and in addition to producing, also stars in the film 'Deadly Illusions'.

Rounding out the group of friends is ambitious lawyer "Miranda Hobbes". Perhaps the most cynical of men and dating, "Miranda" is always the voice of reason for her friends, giving the a shoulder to cry on and a ear to listen when they need it! While her own career can sometimes get in the way of her love life, "Miranda" finds her soul mate in the end! 

The now 59 year old actress is still making headlines, but for different reasons! In 2018, Cynthia Nixon was the talk of the town when she announced her plans to run against incumbent Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo. Although she may have lost the election, Cynthia continues to be a huge advocate for LGBT rights and is happily married to her wife of over 10 years, Christine Marinoni.

Of course 'Sex and the City' wouldn't have been complete without "Carrie's" leading man "John James Preston" aka "Mr. Big". And no, he was not nicknamed that after a body part, but rather because "Carrie" saw him as a big man on campus with his enigmatic personality. While we love him and hate him at times, "Mr. Big" makes "Carrie" truly happy and that's all we could want!
