Courteney Cox is getting ready to Scream again! As Entertainment Tonight shares, the actress took to Instagram on Friday to share that she would be joining the as-of-yet-untitled new movie, Scream 5.
Cox posts Scream video: "I can't wait to see this face again"
Cox revealed the news through a video she posted on Instagram, which featured Scream's iconic character "Ghostface" and the franchise's creepy music. "I can't wait to see this face again," she captioned the video.
Cox tagged the Scream Instagram account in the post, along with production companies Spyglass Media Group and Paramount Pictures. She wasn't the only one to share the news of her return to the Scream franchise, as the directors of the upcoming movie also released a statement!
Scream directors "can't imagine" franchise without Cox
Scream's latest instalment will be the first after director Wes Craven passed away in 2015. Directing duo Radio Silence, made up of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, will be taking the reins for the newest entry in the franchise!
"We can’t imagine Scream without the iconic Gale Weathers and are so incredibly thrilled and humbled to have the opportunity to work with Courteney," they said. "We’re absolute mega fans of her work and we’re so excited to join her in the next chapter of the Scream saga!"
Cox joins David Arquette in the latest Scream movie
Cox is the latest Scream cast member to announce a reprisal of their role! As Entertainment Tonight mentions, David Arquette will also be back as "Sheriff Dewey Riley". Matthew Lillard has said he'd be on board to play "Stu Macher" again. It's also uncertain if Neve Campbell's "Sidney Prescott" will be back, but she talked about the possibility of being involved!
"The conversations are being had, that's for sure," Campbell revealed. "I wasn't sure it was going to happen and I was approached six weeks ago, but the timing's not great right now, obviously. We're starting conversations, we're starting negotiations, but who knows how and when studios are going to open again."
Studios opening again will also be a determining factor for when Cox can film another project her fans are looking forward to! The highly anticipated HBO Max Friends reunion is likely to happen this summer after the COVID-19 delay. Here's hoping that both the Friends special and Scream will be able to start filming soon!
